Artist Statement

CERTAIN CONSTANT ELEMENTS FROM THE VARIETY IN MY WORK EMERGES…

To be uncontrived in my process of creation is to be a vehicle for unconscious forces. This manifests in my work as an involuntary, unrealized quality. I paint to reflect how the most human truths are often naked rather than belabored. I was born and raised in South Africa. There is an invisible umbilical cord that reaches across continents and is still attached to this place and land where my soul feels free. This feeds my inspiration.

About her work

Ursula’s style of abstract expressionism is intensified by the energetic flow and liveliness depicted in her art. Distortion, exaggeration, and spontaneity are techniques the artist uses to explore tension between human vulnerability and inner-strength.

The many layers and bold strokes she applies mirrors the deeper inner subjective dialogue between letting go and acceptance.

Her figures, faces and abstract objects reveal an earthy sensuality, and brings awareness to the beauty of vulnerability.

Her work becomes mysterious due to the intriguing relationship between shapes and forms and detail that gets layered with dramatic effect. The rawness exposes her.
